Sugar Fest October 11th

The Old Arabi Sugar Fest will take place on Saturday, October 11th from
11 am – 7 pm. Held on the grounds of the Meraux Foundation’s Lebeau
House and sponsored by the Old Arabi Neighborhood Association each
year, the festival celebrates sugar and its influence on the area.
Fittingly, Domino Sugar will serve as the major corporate sponsor of
the event, hosting a sugar display as well as providing some of its
prized giveaways. Colored sugar art for children and games involving
sugar will be all part of the fun.
The Office of Tourism and the Tourist Commission will once again have
busses available for guests throughout the day who want to tour and
learn more about the historic district of Old Arabi.
The first-class musical lineup and should make for a fun and festive
The Chalmette High School Jazz Band will kick things off at noon
followed by Mike Darby and the House of Cards Band. Also featured
that afternoon will be the Big Daddy “O” Band and New Orleans’ own,
Yat Pack.. And as has been the tradition for many years, Old Arabi’s
own Irene Sage will close out the fest with the always rocking Irene
Domino Sugar will also host its annual Dessert Competition at this
year’s Sugar Fest. The challenge is simple – create the best tasting
dessert and bring it to the festival grounds by noon. Prizes and
bragging rights await the winner in this battle of the sweet treat.
And of course, Gerald’s Donuts will sponsor the festival’s popular
donut eating contest.
